Computer Lab at the Trades Centre!

HOPEthiopia builds computer lab

Ethiopia is setting their grade 7 to 12 children up for success by introducing an up-to-date curriculum for their students. This includes Science, math, social studies, multiple languages and Information Technology. …

In many areas of Ethiopia text books are not available for all students. Students have to take the shared text book home and copy it out by hand to learn the material. We have set up a computer lab on site in Harbu Chulele. These computers have all the texts books, a typing program and much more loaded onto each of them. This technology will allow our children to use their time more productively studying, instead of copying texts. We have allowed our kids (under our supervision) to dissect a computer so they can see what makes a computer tick, so that they can learn how and why it works, and to learn how to care for their laptops better. As power is very inconsistent in this area the computers are kept fully charged so that even in a power outage the students can study using the computers. All kids this age are drawn to technology and our kids in Harbu are no different. Using technology as part of their study tools now, is keeping our students interested in learning. The students happily choose to work and learn using  the laptops, with learning games and the texts loaded on each. The computers are stripped of time wasting games, instead packed with wonderful and fun learning software. The computer lab is an awesome success story and we are looking forward to how it will shape our childrens lives moving into the future.
